Angel Fish Laying Eggs Part II

I actually caught them in the act. Very cool. I am so glad that the kids were home, they had JUST walked in the door from school.

well, unless they are hiding them in a secret location, all the eggs are gone. when i looked at the tank this morning there was nothing, but they are still guarding their leaf. then mom spit the babies out onto the leaf, she had been holding them in her mouth.
since them they seem to have disappeared and mom and dad have eaten so they cant be in their mouths. they are still guarding their plant though im pretty disappointed. but, if they lay once, they will lay again.

Angel Eggs day 2

this is how they were when i went to bed last night

My son noticed this morning that the eggs were in a different place!! sure enough, the healthy eggs were moved to a new leaf by mom and dad. they are doing a really good job for their first time!
not only were they moved, but we have WIGGLERS! they are adorable, little tails sticking out of the egg. when they slip rexy and/or lemon scoop them in their mouth and reposition them.

angels laid eggs!

so i came home late last night from my long weekend away and found that my angelfish had laid eggs on a leaf.
I had friends at fishlore confirm that Lemon is the male.

basic progression i have been told:
day 2-3 you will see wigglers
day 4-5 you will see eyes and the eggs sacks are slowly going away (they eat this until free swimming)
day 6-7 free swimmers

kegan died overnight. poor little fishie. i have learned from my friends at fishlore that it doesnt sound like fungus as it didnt take over his body. he may have been old and just shut down.
regardless, his 10 days in a nice warm tank with friends was good.
